In this season I wanted to talk about its inner meaning, which is all to easy to forget in this secular age of progress at any cost, and so much pain caused largely by greed, selfishness, and hatred borne by fear. Fear of not having enough, and consequently the felt need to take as much from others as possible.
In America we have no “heroic” leaders we can look up to for spiritual leadership, certainly not in the political or economic arenas. Nor all too often inside our religious communities. This morning I attended a church service that was completely devoid of any spiritual sensibilities. It was incredibly sad, especially in these fraught times when we need to be reminded of, and guided toward, the inner possibilities available to each of us.
